Our House -
the "Sommertime Project"
Eight years ago we started our biggest personal project to date; our house - the Sommertime Project. It was a refresh for our 20-year-old, relatively young yet still terribly outdated and style-lacking, traditional house. We have touched every surface of every room, mostly with paint, over 100 gallons (and counting!), new flooring, new hardware, new lighting – the easy stuff. Some spaces we’ve laid a much heavier hand on by finishing out and/or reworking layouts, changing ceilings, and repurposing rooms. The biggest improvements, however, have been the character we’ve put into the spaces.
The Two Poppies Design team has put countless hours, days and weeks into the Sommertime Project and honed and expanded our talents. This project has put a new perspective on DIY - we truly worked through the projects ourselves, with little outside involvement. Take a look and see how we’ve transformed our house into a well-loved and lived-in home with a colorful, modern farmhouse style.
Warmth is exuded from the continuous hardwood floors throughout the main floor. Neutral paint colors in the connecting spaces provide a fresh backdrop for furniture and decor.
Nothing warms a soul more than a relaxing retreat. Our bedrooms and bathrooms provide restful havens to rejuvenate so we can get back to work on fun projects for you!
Though these spaces function as hardworking rooms in our home, farmhouse style is ever-present in the chosen materials, furniture and colors. From light fixtures to hardware to surfaces, a comforting warmth is consistent.
Living in a beautiful setting is ideal, and our outdoor spaces take advantage of that. The farmhouse look continues outside by using dark metal finishes and informal plantings.
When we gather in our home, collected displays personalize the neutral surroundings. Soft textures from rugs, window treatments and pillows compliment the varying wood tones and dark metal finishes.
